Shopkeeper - The Family Co

I am pleased this morning to share an interview with you from Chelsea of The Family Co whom I have introduced you to before here and here.

Name: Chelsea Thorpe

What do you do for a living?

My husband and I own 'The Family Co'. A small store in Gisborne specialising in beautiful things for your home, your children and you. I run the store and Gene helps look after the girls, paints beautiful colour-field paintings and is the sales rep for our 'Family Wine'.

How does a normal day fold out for you?

Three days a week the girls go to a lovely childcare so the mornings are a little hectic, hair brushed, clean clothes... the usual. We are really lucky to live and work within the same little area so every morning we make time to have a coffee at our local cafe and try and enjoy our time together as a family. I work in the store most of the week but I also make wedding dresses on commission and have a small range of clothing that I sell through the store so our days are pretty jam packed from beginning to end!

Who inspires you?

My girls, our plans for the future and every one out there that is doing the things they love the most. A difficult existence sometimes but very rewarding.

What websites/blogs could we find you reading?

I have been a long time reader of Granace Dore and The Sartorialist but there are so many other amazing blogs that I read on and off. Too be honest sometimes I have to stop reading blogs as I begin to feel inadequate about my own life!

What is your interior style?

I have always loved items with a past and a story, somehow they seem to have an essence about them. I have pieces I have lugged around since I left home but to someone else may seem like junk. But in saying that I love a simple clean space. I would rather have pieces I love than just something that will do the job.

What is your fashion style?

I think it is similar to my interior style. I love vintage clothing but will try and keep it simple and not too over complicated. It has become harder having children as silk only lasts till about 10 in the morning and black is covered in peanuty finger prints. So whatever my outfit it is always accompanied by grubby little finger marks.

From your store, what is on your wishlist to buy right now.

The elegant and whimsical tea set by Miss Etoile, it always puts a smile on my face and the new perfume by Ingrid Starnes.

From anywhere, what is on your wish list to buy right now?

Two more wishbone chairs to complete my set and I have seen a cool beaded lampshade that I am attempting to make.

What is your favorite holiday destination and why?

I have so many dream destinations I would love to visit but for the time being my parents batch up the coast is ideal. The girls get to spend time with family, I am able to commute into work each day and the view and the beach are beautiful.

What is your favorite meal to cook or have cooked for you?

After I had Coco (now 1) my dad and my brother in law went diving to catch me my first crayfish in 9 months. It was one of the most delicious meals ever! My sister is a trained chef and makes a delicious silky home made pasta. She hasn't made this since she sold her cafe just over a year ago but soon maybe?

Any 5 year plans you would like to share with us?

We have been gifted a piece of land by my parents and are planning to build towards the end of next year and I would love to get the business running smoothly so I can spend more time with my girls... possibly open another store too.

Thanks so much for sharing Chelsea. Visit Chelsea online here.

Annabell Kutucu

I have always adored Annabell Kutucu hence the reason I am head over heels for this newly transformed apartment in Vienna...
