Guest Post - The Urban Hunter Finds

Shelley Tunbridge is the designer and owner of The Urban Hunter and one half of the creative duo behind Bones Style Club.  After becoming a stay at home Mother Shelley decided to pursue her passion in homeware and design with the launch of The Urban Infinity Calendar. Following that success she has added an array of products to her label and is now diving into fashion design. With a keen passion for design she loves homeware, fashion, children's clothing and decor. Follow her as she picks out her favourite products to share with the Milo and Mitzy readers.

Concrete is very in vogue at the moment. Pairing this with leather marries the perfect textures together into a small jar that could be used to house any of your small items.  Available online through Mint Six, this is the perfect industrial piece to curb your concrete cravings.

Monday mix up

My apologies for my absence last week. We were fighting off winter nasties and actually ended up in hospital with my wee baby, Patchy, which wasn't very fun. He is bouncing back quickly however, back to pulling his sisters hair whenever he can get his hands on it and playing with his favourite farm set. (Yes he is a real boy, is our Patch) So heres hoping we are back to normailty this week. And please excuse me if I owe you an email. I will get them answered over the next few days.

First up, I wanted to kick off the week with this amazing Western Australian home by Adelaide based, architecture and interior design studio, Williams Burton Leopardi. Light and contemporary with a fabulous indoor/outdoor flow. The exterior of this 4 bedroom home is what really caught my eye. How fantastic is that top image? Really my kind of garden.

And lastly I wanted to finish today off with the gorgeous pinhole lights by the very clever, very talented Leanne Culy of Homebase Collections, right here in Hawkes Bay.

Happy Monday to you all. Heres hoping you all achieve a heap this week.

Blog Contributor: Jemima Phelps of Fiddle + Spoon

I am so thrilled to introduce you to our second contributor here on Milo and Mitzy, the very very talented, Australian based Jemima Phelps of Fiddle + Spoon. I hunted Jemima down myself as I just love her work. She will be bringing us a range of her own delicious recipes and recipes that she has found.

Jemima Phelps is the designer, web wrangler and blogger behind Fiddle + Spoon, a lifestyle blog dedicated to food, travel, fashion, design, photography (and cats)! Dividing her time between Melbourne and her home state of Tasmania, she loves anything creative she can get her paws on!

My very first feature here on Milo + Mitzy was a big - and daunting - choice to make; a whole internets worth of recipes at my fingertips! What to choose?

After countless hours reading recipes and looking at photos of mouth-watering food (not that I'm complaining) I finally settled on something I think you'll all agree is a winner: vanilla porridge with honeyed apples. It's currently winter over here in the Southern Hemisphere, and while Australia is mostly known for our extremely hot summers, we definitely get our fair share of frosty toes and chilly fingers come June!

So what better way to start my first feature than with the first meal of the day - a warm, hearty breakfast! And from the Queen of Cooking Donna Hay, no less.

Enjoy! x

See recipe here.

Home tour- Vineyard House

Yep I think it really it time for winter to hit the road now. We have spent the past couple of weeks rugged up inside fighting winter bugs. I am dreaming of long balmy evenings spent outside eating and drinking with friends and family. This Capetown home that I discovered is the perfect home for doing just this.

The open plan living, the landscape and setting and the use of oak used throughout, particularly those wooden shutters is what really attracted me to this home. And lastly, how amazing would it be having a soak in that bath?

Happy Sunday.

The Urban Hunter Finds

Recently here at Milo and Mitzy, we put a call out looking for a couple of contributors. We had a fantastic response to this and so it brings me much excitement to introduce you to a new Milo and Mitzy contributor, Shelley Truebridge of The Urban Hunter.

Copper has been making appearances all over the homeware scene. This week I share with you the Copper Coat Hanger from The Urban Hunter. Sleek in its design with a beautiful metallic copper finish these coat hangers will make your clothes scream luxe. Not only to be hidden away in wardrobes these would also look great displaying magazines on a wall or using the bottom rail as a centre for a weaving project.

Stay tuned, I'm sure this brand is one to watch.

St Clements

I have been wanting to share this brand with you for a while now. It has my name written all over and I am predicting big things for this design trio. Below I share an interview with you from Jonathon, one of the talented siblings who make up New Zealands, St Clements.

Tell us about St Clements, when and why did it begin?

St Clements is a furniture and lifestyle store in Eden Terrace, Auckand. Owners and siblings Tia, Cameron and Jonathon Logan established the store February 2015, so it's pretty new. All of us work in creative fields with myself, Jonathon, a furniture designer. We have imported Sydney brand MCM House as we feel it has a look that translates well to the NZ way of living.

Where do you look for for inspiration? Books, people, websites, blogs?

Inspiration is pretty easy in the sharing age of social media, but it's a good idea to not be too current by looking at the old TV, books, music, life in general and of course nature.

What's happening in the future for St Clements?

We have designed some locally made products that will be different but compliment the current offering.

Thanks so much for letting us in on behind the scenes of New Zealand's new up and coming brand. Definitely one to watch I am predicting.

Erin Simpson of TV ONE's new Kiwi Living Show

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Erin Simpson, one of the presenters on TV ONES new lifestyle series, Kiwi Living Show.

Tell us about your new project Kiwi Living. (Kiwi Living starts Friday 7.30pm on TV ONE) What will your role on the show be?

Kiwi Living is a fun mix of lifestyle and entertainment television, bringing viewers the best of New Zealand’s food, travel, living spaces, health and well-being, fashion and gardening. We have a great team of presenters on board showcasing their passion and expertise in all the above areas and I’m looking after the Living Spaces segment.
I'm on board as everyone's project guider.  We find New Zealanders who deserve one of their rooms to be made over and we get in there and do it. I don't pretend to be an expert, by any means, I simply ask questions in order to have an understanding of what they would love to see happen and then I simply help to make that happen. I love doing this, as it gives me a chance to suggest some of the amazing things I have come across in my own design career.

Each episode we rotate. One week it will be a makeover, the next will be in my workshop showing people how to start something new – giving them inspiration or ideas for a project they can easy take on themselves over the weekend.  My favourite one so far has been transforming a plain, spare bedroom into an adorable, loving little nursery, just in time for the families’ first child
Tell us about your background.

A dairy farmer’s daughter hailing from Te Kauwhata; Waikato, I spent my years studying and performing to gain a Bachelor in Musical Theatre and a BA in Opera Performance.  I then got busy auditioning my way into shows such as Jesus Christ Super Star, Beauty and the Beast before walking in the doors of TV2’s What Now to ask for a part time job that actually ended up in being my happy place and I soon found myself being accepted for many various TV roles.  These roles have continued to get bigger and better!  Two years What Now, then two years co-hosting Sticky TV eventually leading to my biggest challenge, The Erin Simpson Show.  Every weekday for five years, the series delivered an afternoon stuffed with surprises and laughs, while I chatted to some of the world’s biggest stars from music, TV sports and the arts.

2014 saw me taking on new challenges while I set about sinking my teeth into my other passion - art! As a result my work can be seen and bought on my website and for sale in various stores and galleries around the country. #blessed

What inspires you right now in terms of design?

Just knowing that design is not scary!!!  All you have to do is give it a try. For example, place different things together, layer lines, colours, textures and fabrics, mix them all together. The hardest thing is motivating yourself to get started!

There is so much talent hidden in this country and if my work (of any nature) inspires someone else to get out there and give something ago then we are doing something right.

What websites are you currently frequenting?

In your current city.. .

The best coffee

I'm a large take-away hot chocolate  drinker and anyone who's willing to burn the milk and make mine about 90 degrees is a winner in my books. Lots of cafés won't do it so to be honest I prefer a classic bakery like Raspberry Tarts on Parnell Hill.

The best restaurant

Club68 - they make an amazing Beef Stroganoff, Beef Stew and Kale Veggie Salad

The best clothing store

Ilabb, Mons Royale, Federation and Trelise Cooper!

A must do for visitors?

Go and watch the Auckland Blues train!!  They are getting a brand new complex and training centre soon so we won’t be able to do it for much longer!!  It’s a bit of a secret but currently you can pull up right next to their field and quietly watch them all in action

Tell us about your own home/style.

Very much a minimalist!  I have so much going on in my brain that too much physical stuff is simply too overwhelming.
We have clean walls but have one of my designs printed as a massive grafix wall art piece in the kitchen which is an amazing feature (we have recently joined forces and they sell them).

I’m a kitchen and lounge sort of girl!  We have a massive round table in our house and I would be the first to comment that it is similar to that of a watering hole! We have solved many a problem at the round table and we have cemented many a friendship at that round table so with that in mind that table would be the most precious and valuable thing I own.

It’s very much a house where people add the colour and the personality, they know they are always welcome due to our open door policy and as a result they come in droves and I am never alone.  My life is very very full and I and very very blessed.

Thank you so much for your time Erin, I look forward to watching Kiwi Living starting Friday 7.30pm on TV ONE.

Modern Hamtons Home

We had a house full of bugs last week and now I have caught the rare end of it. Not fun being sick with busy toddlers keeping you on your toes. I thought I would kick off the week with a modern home tour. I came across this home whilst browsing through pinterest. It was that modern industrial kitchen that really caught my eye.

This ridiculously awesome Hamptons home belongs to Rag and Bone co-founder Marcus Wainright. The concrete floors, that industrial staircase and the open plan living sure do make for some cool living that is for sure.
