Guest Post- Vic from Cush and Nooks

If anyone can do colour and pattern right, Vic from over at Cush and Nooks is the one in the know. She is the ultimate go to girl when it comes to mixing and clashing brights in the right way. We are extremely lucky to have Vic guest posting for us today here at Milo and Mitzy. Thanks Vic

Hi there! It's Vic here from Cush & Nooks.  I'm really excited to be doing a guest post on Milo & Mitzy today. Amy is not only a fellow Kiwi blogger, but she's a Hawke's Bay girl like me, and we both share a love of Scandinavian design.

I know Amy has recently had her first babe, and with three of my own, kids' bedrooms are a favourite of mine. Decorating a child's room is the perfect opportunity to be adventurous and have fun. My advice is to use some forward thinking, so that the room can easily be transitioned from a baby to a toddler, to an older child. You can have a fairly neutral base and have fun with the furniture, art and accessories.

Don't feel like you have to use mass market tv characters as art in your child's room. A brightly coloured abstract painting would look a million times better, and kids love the shapes and colours.

An antique piece of furniture can look stunning in contrast to brightly coloured bedding, and is very special if it has family history. It can transition with the child right through to adulthood.

This bedroom is great for young siblings. Or the child could grow into the bunk (with a safety barrier added), and add a desk below.

via
Paint some dots or stripes on the wall for instant fun.

via
Kids of all ages love chalk drawing, and you can get some gorgeous coloured chalk paint these days. You can paint an entire wall in it, or a single shape.

Bunk beds are a perennial favourite, and really handy in small rooms. Add some home made curtains and the beds turn into little cubbies.

via
Have some fun and paint the furniture vibrant colours. This vintage bed is such a pretty shape and in hot pink it really comes alive.

Get creative and save money by turning a simple cube bookshelf into a doll's house with wrapping paper on the back walls, and a washi tape roof, or string wound around thumb tacks.

I hope I've inspired you with some of these ideas. Happy decorating!
